 he Međimurje Museum Čakovec is located in the mansion of the great counts of Zrinski and Althan from the renaissance/baroque period. The mansion and its fortifications form the complex of the "Stari grad" which stands on the picturesque plateau in the centre of the city park, surrounded with greenery and a moat which is a remnant of the former unconquerable "water castle".
Today, this is a museum of a complex type. Museum activities take place in the Archaeological Department, Cultural-historical Department, Historical Department, Ethnographic Department, Art Gallery with the commemorative collection of Ladislav Kralj-Međimurec, Exhibition Hall, specialised library and in the workroom for restoration and preparation.
