he current of the river Mura, which rises in Austria, slows down when it crosses Slovenia. Due to the flatland, it freely winds and shifts directions. Dokležovje lies on the left bank of the river Mura which in the past represented the natural border between the Hungarian and Austrian parts of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The boundary stone bears witness to the border. Before the first road bridge between Dokležovje and Veržej was built, the only way of crossing the river was with the ferry.
During the period between April and October, the river Mura is very popular for canoeing, kayaking and boating. In addition, the Dokležovje Boating Association offers trips down the river with traditional wooden ships. The village of Dokležovje is renowned for the Ivan Jerič Monument and the Ivan Jerič Memorial Room. Ivan Jerič was a priest, member of the Imperial Council of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and Maister's fighter.
